(解説)
1.molestの意味はpersecuteよりもoppressに近く、個人の行為を表すことが多い。ただしoppressとの違いは、molestには性的ないやがらせの意味があることだ。特に若い者に対してのいやがらせの場合が多い。また、molestは、人間が動物に危害を加えることを指すこともある。
2.電車内などでの痴漢行為はmolestingまたはgropingと訳される。gropeの本来の意味は「つかむ」、「握る」であり、一般に、molestingが無抵抗な相手に対して行う性的ないたずらを指すのに対して、gropingはより強引な性的行動を指す。
