Found this movie in facebook. A friend of mine were posting this, and happed to be on my time line. I know Pink Floyd, but never heard their songs carefully. Actually this album was one of my bed time songs, because dad loved this CD and were all over the room all the time in a big loud sound. I remember the sound of clock and the chime. Now I'm listening it by my choice. I'm so glad to meet this now.

Found this book at the office while I was searching some books for introducing Japan. Having two ways of English; spoken English and written English gives me a lot of hint to see the other side of English. They are different, even if the basis and the result of telling was the same, the order and process of thinking in the brain is obviously different.
Actually I'm not finished reading this book, but I thought it was great idea to see the importance of ordering English. I never say from that aspect. I'm very new comer to this world, but I hope I could make something out of here...

I realized one thing while searching and interviewing the strange things about Japan or Japanese culture on my work research. Like some great philosopher said, we can find ourselves because there are some others exists, because of the differences between we and others. Right? Japanese people likes to know "What is Japanese Culture?" "Who likes Japanese culture and why?". They loves themselves so much and can't stop observing theirselves more than any other countries did ever.
But the scope to look into theirselves is very limited. They see themselves only look through from Western countries, like America, England, or Europe. This means that we Japanese only can find the differences between these cultures. To know Japan more, we need to know all the countries, we need to compare with all the countries. By looking with this scope, we can be more global and at the same time we will be able to face our culture more effectively. In long term, I think this will produce big bright future, other wise we will be behind all other countries.
When I interview people from other countries, they have a global view. I mean they can tell the differences between Japan, their home country and the world. It might be impossible to compare all the countries in one head, where she/he never traveled before, but they at least have three countries measure to see the culture.
To me, what I need is a scope of more developing countries, like India, Indonesia, Thai and so on. Remember, this is a effect of the TABITABI pod cast...
Ha, ha ha, thanks for great opportunity to write this here. I'm proud of myself, I realized now, at this point of my life.

「ニッポン社会」入門 英国人記者の抱腹レポート コリン・ジョイス著 2006
仕事の資料集めの一環として読んでみた。外国人からみたニッポンという視点を集めていたのだけれど、日本の伝統文化、観光地、寿司とか納豆の話ばかりの本ばかり多くて、しっかり生活に密着した「なんで？」を書いてある本がなかったので、困っていたのだけれど、この本は著者という視点から見える日本の枠組みが見えるようで、非常に参考になった。
確かに「勝負パンツ」なんて英語にはないことばだよね。それから「おニュー」もnewしか知らない外国人にとって、それに敬語である「お」をトッピングして使うなんて、ヘンな感じだよね。でもそういう文化の不思議が面白いのね。
著者のコリン・ジョイスさんは新聞記者。ニューズウィーク日本語版でStranger in Englandという記事を書いている。これも面白いよ。
そういえば、昨日書店で『イギリス人が見たアメリカ』というような（ゼンゼン違うかも）タイトルの邦題がつけられた洋書を見かけて読んでみたいと思いました。今、ネットで検索してみたのだけれど、ヒットなかった。残念。
なんかさー、書店で一度見てから買いたいと思って、書店まで時間をかけて足を運ぶわりに欲しい本はいつも置いてなくてがっかりするんだよね。だから、「ああ、やっぱり最初からAmazonで買っちゃえばよかった」と思うんだけど、でも今日みたいに書店で見かけた本をいざネットで探そうと思うと見つからなかったりするんだよね。もぉ、世の中便利になってるんだか、不便になってるんだか……。なるべく書店に行って、書店で買いたいと思っているんだけど、書店員さんの知識もあまりなくてさ、時間も結構かかってさ、無駄足だったなっていうことよくあるから、書店もっと頑張ってほしいよ。店員さん、しっかりして頑張って。
ちなみに昨日横浜の大型書店でミシュランのジャパンガイド英語版ありますか、と店員さんに聞いてみたら、「ミシュランのガイドですね。どのようなものでしょうか？」と聞かれて、日本文化紹介するガイド本の棚の近くにいた店員さんに聞いたのに、「ミシュランガイドを知らないの？」って感じでびっくりしたよ。目の前にパソコンあって、検索機あるのに、一生懸命棚を探して、「ここになければありません」と言われちゃったもんね。ああ、時間がもったいなかった。
